To say that 2020 and now 2021 have been challenging years could be an understatement to some but for those who love sports we say- "challenge accepted!" How is coming up against a strong competitor in a sporting match any different than the SDJA Athletics Program coming up against the challenge of COVID19? Keeping our athletes and coaching staff safe, staying active, staying healthy (in body AND mind) and pushing through the circumstances have proven to stretch and grow our program in creative ways. This is exactly what a winning team will do.
SDJA staff and Coach Hill, SDJA Athletic Director, have worked tirelessly to find the best safety protocols and procedures to get our students back on campus to start training again even though competition still may not be an option.
"While the current situation regarding sports and returning to competition is less than ideal it is important to remember what the late great Coach John Wooden said, 'Don't let what you can't do keep you from doing what you can do.' We must keep pushing forward, doing what we safely can even if it isn't exactly how we wished it could be," says Coach Hill.
For the remainder of the 2021 school year, there will be modified training seasons for each sport as you can see in the schedule below. Students will satisfy their sports credit for the year with the completion of the outlined training schedule. Competition in any given sport will be dependent upon State and County guidelines and revisited when the stay at home order is lifted.
It is our honor to be able to provide a safe place for students to be active and social during this challenging season but it is also our responsibility to be the example of perseverance in the face of adversity.
