"Behind every fearless player and coach is a fearless ATHLETIC DIRECTOR who refused to let them be anything but the best they can be." -unknown
After 12 amazing years our fearless athletic director is moving on. At any point during the day athletes and coaches alike would be in and out of the athletic office looking for Coach Hill because they knew she had all the answers. She had a knack for seeing people's talents and gifts and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. The SDJA Athletic program has grown and blossomed because of her leadership and has a solid foundation to continue building on!
Starting at SDJA in 2009 as a softball coach, over the years Coach Hill as actually coached PE, middle school volleyball, middle school basketball and varsity basketball. She jumped into the Assistant Athletic Director position in 2010 and for the last 6 years has lead the Athetic Deprtment as Director. Each sport at SDJA has had their ups and downs but just before the COVID pandemic in 2019-2020 Coach Hill says about the SDJA accomplishments,
"It was really a culmination of building over the last 3-4 years to create the momentum that led to 3 out of 7 teams that competed to win their League and 6 out of 7 team making it to playoffs."
"I know that once we are fully able to resume activities, SDJA has the capacity to pick up right where we left off."
And as Coach Hill spent countless hours in the frustrating aftermath of COVID, fighting for the athletes to get back on campus and play the sports they love- that is exactly what happened. In her last month as Athletic Director, the SDJA Golf team made history and won Pacific League Champions!
There have been many important lessons learned at SDJA as the Athletic Director but the most valuable Coach Hill says is this,
"All good thing take time to build, there are no short cuts and being great at something is simply taking the time to do all the little things right, including how you treat people."
There are so many memories, quiet chats, laughs and celebrations we will all hold dear to us but it is the people Coach Hill says she will miss the most. The staff, the students and the parents that she will always remember.
As Coach Hill moves to Dallas, Texas to continue her Athletic Director journey at Ursaline Academy of Dallas she leaves with us these last words of wisdom, "We do not remember hours or days, but moments. Life moves fast, enjoy your moments."
All the best and we will miss you Coach Hill!
