Fall Sports at SDJA started strong and are still going strong as the regular season is wrapping up. Just last night SDJA Girls Tennis clinched the Pacific League Champion title after going undefeated in the Pacific League and 16-1 Overall! Looks like the hard work and dedication is paying off. As the Girls Tennis team looks toward playoffs, Senior Co-Captain Liora Langman says,
"It's very important for us as a team to make it to playoffs. We are always cheering each other on at the courts and it would really make me proud for our whole team to be seen by others."
SDJA Football also remains undefeated with one of the best teams SDJA has ever seen! With one more regular season game, they also have their eyes set on playoffs. Senior Co-Captain Yosi Galicot says,
"To me making playoffs speaks on how invested the team is to winning together. We wouldn't be able to get to where we are without everyone's full dedication to becoming a better team, every practice. It shows how as a team we are all striving to acheive our goal of not only making playoffs but winning CIF through our values of dedication and discipline."
Another Senior Co-Captain Jimmy Cohen says,
"Making it to playoffs for the third consecutive year represents the consistency within our program and the hard work it takes to reach that consistency. I see it as an additional opportunity to bring the CIF Championship to SDJA and leave a legacy at my high school."
Their last regular season game is next Thursday 10/21 at Horizon Prep at 3:30pm. Be there to cheer them on as they continue on their path to playoffs!
Last but not least, SDJA Volleyball is still in the running for making it to playoffs! With an overall record of 5-7 and 3-5 in league, they have 3 more games to play next week. Volleyball is the only SDJA sport that could not compete last year because of COVID but it looks like their short season of training still did them some good. Coach Ramos, new as the head coach this year says,
"Having a season of just training last year gave us time to work on fundamentals, dedication and mental toughness of getting through difficuties. We have a young and really inexperienced team with only 2 Varsity returners. It is truely a testament to the dedication and love of the game that this group of girls has, to be doing this well after all we have been through. Captains Rena Novom and Sammi Weiss have done a great job of stepping into the leadership role keeping their team going. I am excited to finish the season strong and make it to post season play!"
As the team is looking forward, Junior Co-Captain Sammi Weiss says,
"It would honestly mean so much to me to lead my team to the playoffs for volleyball. We've worked really hard and really gotten better as a team. Reaching playoffs would show us how all of our hard work has paid off. If we do get to playoffs, I wouldn't only be happy and excited, but I'd be devoted to seeing our team goal through."
Volleyball has 2 more home games next week Wednesday 10/20 at 6:30pm and Thursday 10/21 at 5:30pm (Senior night!!) Come out and cheer them on!!
So there it is! With only one more week of regular season for fall sports, we are far from being done! We will persevere, through thick and thin and be the teams we know we can be! We can see that the road to playoffs is hard work, dedication, leadership, teamwork, mental toughness, focus and love of the game.
Go Lions!
